The Intake Initiative is the first program of its kind — a comprehensive, family-centered approach that prepares individuals before they enter prison, supports them throughout their sentence, and guides them as they return home.
We believe that incarceration doesn’t have to be chaotic, isolating, or destructive. With the right tools, people can enter prison with clarity, avoid unnecessary disciplinary issues, resist gang and hate‑group recruitment, and use their time to grow.
Our curriculum helps participants understand how prison works, how to navigate daily life safely, and how to engage in programs that build skills and purpose. At the same time, we support families — helping parents, partners, and children stay connected through healthy communication, emotional preparation, and ongoing guidance during incarceration.
When release comes, we walk with individuals through reentry, offering structure, stability, and a roadmap for rebuilding their lives with dignity.
The Intake Initiative turns fear into preparation, isolation into connection, and incarceration into an opportunity for growth. No one should face this journey alone — and with us, they never do.
By providing incarceration support for families before incarceration, we aim to:
Reduce gang and hate group recruitment,
Lower disciplinary infractions and solitary confinement rates,
Improve participation in rehabilitative programs,
Increase successful reentry and reduce recidivism through our justice reform nonprofit initiatives. Our prison preparation program also emphasizes the importance of parenting from prison, helping families stay connected and supported during this challenging time.
The three essential books in our core curriculum, designed to support families during incarceration, are: The Intake Initiative, Participant Guide, Rising from the Ashes, and Navigating New Worlds. These resources are invaluable for those involved in a justice reform nonprofit, offering insights into parenting from prison and providing guidance for our prison preparation program and reentry support.
